Cyprus / Tombs of the Kings, Stone piles 1466
Stone piles in the vicinity of the Tombs of the Kings. The lighthouse is in the distance, located at Paphos Archaeological Park. The place is covered in stone piles; it seems an awful lot of people just cannot resist building them, wherever there are a few stones.
The tombs of the Kings date back from around the 3rd century BC. Despite its name it's unlikely that any Kings were buried here, but it was certainly a burial place for the rich and powerful Ptolemaic aristocrats of the time.
